Providing platform for young artists

The winners of the Chinese New Year (CNY) packet competition for 2023 organised by Progresif in collaboration with the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited (BOCHK) Brunei Branch were announced yesterday during a prize presentation ceremony at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

The competition was open to local Chinese schools, young art students as a platform for aspiring designers to showcase their talent and creativity by tasking them to design unique CNY packets.

This year is the Year of the Rabbit, symbolising mercy, elegance, and beauty.

Hiroko Alya binti Mohd Sabri emerged as the winner of the competition and walked away with BND388.

“I really did not expect to win, especially the first place. I am so happy to receive this prize from Progresif! Thank you, Progresif, for giving me this opportunity,” said Hiroko Alya.

Tan Rou Jun came in the second place and took home BND288 while third place went to Chiew Yu, who received BND188.

Hebe Liaw Wen Hui and Vanessa Voon came in foruth and fifth places and were handed BND88.

Three young artists, who participated in the competition, were also given certificates by Progresif.

The event were attended by Progresif Chief Executive Officer Hajah Nurul Haniah binti Haji Jaafar, BOCHK General Manager Dr Li Feng and BOCHK Chief Risk Officer Andrew Young Chee Ann.

The Progresif CEO said, “We are glad to acknowledge the ingenuity and brilliance of these young artists by announcing the winners of our Chinese New Year packet competition.”

She added that Progresif is committed to supporting arts and culture in Brunei and using the competition to provide young artists with exposure.

“Progresif is helping to cultivate a creative community in Brunei by providing opportunities for local artists to showcase their talent and earn money for their work.”
