Promoting green initiatives at National Day celebration

Green Brunei with the support of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) will carry out Bandarku Bebas Botol Plastik (My City is Free of Plastic Bottles) during the 38th National Day celebration tomorrow.

Nur Hazirah binti Mohd Sufian from the Committee of Green Brunei’s Environmental Education Exploration Project said Green Brunei will collaborate with drinking water suppliers and private parties to provide water dispensers at targetted locations, along the parade route leading to the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.

The checkpoints map, she said, will be shared through government official channels and social media.

The initiative is aimed at reducing the use of plastic bottles during the national day celebration while supporting the Plastic Bottle Free Initiative fronted by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), Ministry of Development, encourage alternative to plastic in a bid to promote green practices in the community.

The public is urged to bring their own bottles or reusable cups to the event venue and refill drinking water for free at allocated spots.
