St James’ School in Kuala Belait organised an English Week recently.

Themed ‘Learn to Read, Read to Learn’, the event was led by teacher Leonardo Amo, who said the celebration served to expose the students to the English language while developing their command of the language.

“The event serves as a platform to help students gain confidence in speaking on stage and encourages a reading habit that will lead to love and appreciation,” he continued.

Among the activities lined up for the day included a spelling bee competition, a poster-making contest and performances from the students.

The students also participated in a TikTok challenge to merge English and information communication and technology (ICT) by pretending to be newscasters of their favourite news channels.

The school also encouraged the students to contribute and donate books that they are interested in for the school’s library which can help provide opportunities for book sharing among themselves. – Daniel Lim
