Coastal Marvel

Some 274.5 kilogrammes (kg) of rubbish was collected by over 200 participants during the national coastal cleaning campaign, ‘Coastal Marvel’, under the Committee on Cleanliness Issues (JIIK) at Muara Beach Recreational Park yesterday.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) in response to a recommendation from the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe).

The campaign aimed to raise awareness on cleanliness issues along the coast caused by marine debris, especially plastic waste, while developing baseline data for these marine debris.

It also served to promote a sense of responsibility towards protecting and conserving the environment through proper waste disposal methods.

Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the MCYS Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, Permanent Secretary (Youth) at the MCYS Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin and Acting Permanent Secretary (Community) at the MCYS Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah as well as officers and staff from the MCYS, youth volunteers and alumni from the National Service Programme (PKBN), participated in the campaign. – James Kon

Plogging Challenge

Some 50 Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) students participated in the Plogging Challenge activity at Muara Beach on Friday, in conjunction with the 14th UNISSA Mahrajan Hafl al-Takharruj.

The event aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle by combining jogging or walking with garbage collecting for the participant’s physical and mental health, as well as raising awareness on the importance of keeping the environment clean.

It also provided the participants an opportunity to contribute in the BN on the Move initiative. – Azlan Othman
