As part of the Community Outreach Project under the 33rd Executive Development Programme for Middle Management Officers (EDPMMO), the Simpur Team yesterday conducted a ‘Rumahku Bersih, Negara Hijau’ project at Kampong Melilas longhouse in the Belait District.
Assistant Belait District Officer Mohammad Yassin bin Haji Ahmed, as a representative of the Acting District Officer of Belait was the guest of honour.
Also present were longhouse chief, teachers and students of Kampong Melilas and Kampong Sukang Primary Schools, as well as government officers.
The project is an awareness and educational programme for residents of Kampong Melilas longhouse and students from Kampong Melilas and Kampong Sukang Primary Schools in the Belait District.
The programme includes the handing over of recycling bins to Kampong Melilas longhouse, posters and books to Kampong Melilas and Kampong Sukang Primary Schools.
There were also presentations on ‘Clean and Green Environment and Composting’ and activities on waste segregation as well as a composting demonstration.
The project is carried out in collaboration with stakeholders, including government agencies such as the Belait District Office, Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) of the Ministry of Development and the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT).
Also involved were the MPRT, the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, and non-governmental organisations such as Big BWN Project and Zero Waste.
The project’s objectives are to raise awareness and educate on sustainable waste disposal in the community.
It is also aimed to empower the community to instil a sense of responsibility towards protecting and preserving the environment through proper waste disposal methods.
