Programme held to promote estate agent profession

A continuous professional development (CPD) programme to promote estate agents and enhancing everyone’s knowledge and skills in the profession, allowing for networking among government and private sector and also to foster professional advancement leading to practical solutions to land or property conflicts and challenges was held at Indera Pahlawan Hall, Ministry of Development last month.

It was jointly organised by the Land Department, Ministry of Development and the Brunei Institution of Geomatics (BIG) under the Real Estate Division with Eddy Nor Ezwan bin Haji Mohammad as the chairperson and Nadthra binti Ahmad Irawadi as the secretary of real estate. The event began with opening remarks from BIG President Haji Ali Bakar bin Haji Kasim.

He welcomed the six new successful members under the Real Estate Division who have presented their papers on September 10, 2022.

BIG covers a wide range of professional bodies such as the Land Surveyors (LLS), Planners, Real Estate Agency, Property Valuers, Land Administrators and Property Management from government and private sectors. Currently, it has more than 60 members.

Over 50 participants attended the one-day CPD programme comprising government officers, BIG members, registered estate agents and valuers certified by the Board of Valuers and Estate Agents (BoVEA) and other professional bodies.

Certificates of membership were presented by Haji Ali to new members. Lee Jia Hau from Homestage Realty with his presentation on ‘Process of buying property in Brunei’; Mek Cheau Soon from Ascot Real Estate on ‘My Career as a Real Estate agent’; Ng Lee Yun from Excel View Realty on ‘Significant Experience in the Field of Real Estate Agents’; Julius Christopher Keasberry from Bess Property Agency on ‘Purchasing a residential property’; Chew Ee Pei from G.A Real Estate presented on ‘Role & Responsibility as a Real Estate Agent’; and Syaifa Hananee Abdullah Toa Panya from Bess Property Agency on ‘Guidelines for Purchase of property’.

The programme also featured a guest speaker from Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB), Dayangku Nurul Ehsani binti Pengiran Mohammad, on ‘Anti-Money Laundering & Combatting the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFD Obligation)’.

At the event, six new applicants delivered their presentations as presenting a paper is one of the pre-requisites to gain membership at BIG.

The six new applicants were: Dannie Azzura bin Haji Abu Basrah from DanBasrah Real Estate who spoke on ‘Real Estate in the Technology Driven Era’; Jia Mei Yang (Amanda) from Homecity Property & Management Sdn Bhd on ‘How to be a successful Real Estate’; and Siaw Chin Liew (Amy) from BruWorld Real Estate & Property Management on ‘To Let People Stay in Their Dream Home’.

Chuan Jay Foo (Jason) from Alphamas Real Estate Agency on the ‘Current real estate market situation in Brunei)’; Agnes Anak Taba from Rimbunan Raya Real Estate on ‘Estate Agency of Rimbunan Raya’; Haji Abu Bakar from Bahagiah Real Estate on ‘Sustainability in Real Estate – BRE Perspective’ ; and Hyong Jye Chin (Lawrence) from Paragon Realty on ‘Striving Efficiency in Real Estate’.
