Programme aims to make youth market-ready, employable

The importance of equipping youth with skills and a strong identity was highlighted by Deputy Minister (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah at the opening ceremony of Cohort 6 of Jati Diri programme (PJD).

“PJD is an important initiative as the programme not only provides opportunity for youth to better their skills but also trains their resilience, discipline, mental and spiritual strength and leadership qualities.”

Resilience and discipline, he said, “are important in each individual, especially among the youth. They need to be able to overcome failure, face obstacles and move forward with strong determination”.

He added, “Discipline is also important because talent and skills alone are not enough to achieve success. Insya Allah, such values will be instilled in all trainees with the hope of fulfilling the objective of the programme, that is to produce a group that is employable and market-ready.”

“This only can be achieved through the close cooperation between government, education institutions and industry, with each playing an important role in identifying the latest skills required by the industry and providing meaningful employment to the locals,” he said. – James Kon
