The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) yesterday launched a new reading corner at the Senior Citizen Activity Centre (PKWE) in RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan.
The reading corner aims to promote lifelong learning to produce informed, skilled and knowledgeable Bruneians.
The reading corner is one of the services offered by the DBP in its effort to further expand its reach to the public by providing reading materials in strategic places that are easily accessible.
An average of about 120 books in the Malay language are available and the books will rotate every two months according to the needs and requests of the PKWE.
The reading corner is a collaboration and cooperation between the DBP and non-government bodies in providing reading materials, such as fiction and non-fiction books as well as examination question papers.
Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan officiated the event.
Meanwhile Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the MCYS Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah launched a learner’s reading corner at Learners Bar Enterprise in Kiulap yesterday.
