Prison warden jailed 39 months for corruption, misconduct

Asmali bin Abdullah, a prison warden, was sentenced to over three years in prison after being found guilty of corruption and misconduct.

Asmali was found guilty of accepting a total of BND300 in bribes from two individuals to use his mobile phone for unauthorised communications with outside parties on March 13 and April 26, 2022. He was also found guilty of unlawfully conveying communication to a prisoner.

Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid handed the 39-month sentence to the defendant, noting the gravity of the offences in which Asmali had exploited his position of trust.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Pengiran Hajah Nor ‘Azmeena binti Pengiran Haji Mohiddin presented evidence during the trial, which began on September 19, 2022. – Fadley Faisal
