Prioritising self-care in women

A forum on ‘Self-Care: You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup’ was conducted virtually yesterday to mark International Women’s Day 2022.

Jointly organised by the Community Development Department (JAPEM) of the Ministry Culture, Youth and Sports and Univeristi Teknologi Brunei (UTB), the forum focussed on psychology, spirituality and mental well-being of women and was attended by some 240 participants comprising government officers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), students from higher learning institutions and the public.

Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari as Brunei Youth Council President also joined the forum.

Assistant Professor at the Centre for Communication, Teaching and Learning (CCCT) of UTB Dr Malai Zeti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid moderated the forum with Community Development Officer Irmawati binti Haji Mahir; Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Assistant Professor Dr Hajah Asmah binti Haji Husaini; and Oh Baby Bean Founder, Facilitator and Head of Support Rasyidah binti Haji Samah as panellists.

The forum’s main objective was to promote self-care among women in the new norms by developing an awareness of the spiritual aspect of mental health and the importance of strong family bonds.

The forum also discussed issues faced by women in the new normal, particularly achieving mental stability in pandemic times.
