Prince ‘Abdul Malik graces Al-Quran reading contest

His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik yesterday graced the second night of the final National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults for 1445 Hijrah at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

Welcoming His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik was Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, in his capacity as the Chairperson at the Executive Committee for Major Islamic Calendar of Events for 1445 Hijrah and chairman of the competition; Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof; Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin; Acting Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Pengiran Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani; Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar and other executive committee members of the competition.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Awang Emran bin Haji Kunchang.

The competition commenced with the recitation of Al-Quran verses by Pengiran Md Amirul Aiman bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki; Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana binti Pengiran Haji Marjuki and Haji Mohammad bin Ali.

Officers and staff from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB); Insurans Islam TAIB Holdings Sdn Bhd and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd recited Selawat Al-Fatih and As-Syifa during the break. The competition resumed with another three participants: Nur Amal Atiqah @ Aida binti Haji Sulaiman; Haji Hazwan bin Haji Salim; and Najla’ Sabreena binti Haji Abdul Rajid. The competition will conclude tonight with the announcement of results. – Rokiah Mahmud
