BERNAMA – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya, India yesterday.
Modi said the airport, named after the poet Valmiki known as the author of the epic Ramayana, is part of various infrastructure plans to improve connectivity to the town where a huge temple dedicated to a deity is being constructed.
The Indian prime minister also inaugurated a railway station and road projects in the town, located about 135 kilometres from the Uttar Pradesh state capital Lucknow.
The projects launched and inaugurated by Modi yesterday are estimated to be worth about USD1.9 billion, according to a press release a day earlier.
Modi came to lay the foundation stone for a ‘New Ayodhya’ in a ‘New India’, State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said during the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport inauguration event.
