Price gouging affects the poor

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, quite a number of establishments have opted to hike prices of food staples to “recover” the losses incurred during periods of restrictive measures.

As a result, the cost of living has vastly increased, despite wages remaining unchanged. It pressures consumers to shop for the lowest possible price, which can be time consuming.

I hope the authorities could monitor the business conduct of these establishments and put a cap on prices of daily essentials.

While the country continues to battle the threats of COVID-19 in the third wave, we need to make sure people in the low income bracket don’t struggle to make ends meet.
