The Youth Development Centre was established in 1996 as an aspiration of the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to see more skilled youth who are independent.
This was said by Assistant Director of Youth Development Centre Haswandi bin Haji Osman as the guest of honour at a ceremony to register the new trainees at the centre yesterday.
Some 133 trainees registered at the Youth Development Centre, to pursue courses under the Youth Development Programme.
“Such efforts are in line with the National Youth Policy and Strategy 2020-2035 through the third core strategy on education and employability to ensure all youth in the country are employable and have sufficient access to relevant education and training,” said Haswandi.
He also shared, “The centre focusses on the four main initiatives to ensure the direction of this centre remains relevant even with the change of time”.
One of the main initiatives is to implement and to review the courses and ensure that they are in line with the needs of industry and demands of job market.
“Offering more new short courses will allow and strengthen cooperation with industry stakeholders and agencies through on-the-job training and contract of employment,” he said.
