Preparing for Chinese New Year

The Foochow Association of Kuala Belait marked the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration in a tying-the-red-knot ceremony on January 26.

Association chairman Tan Tei Tei as well as permanent honorary chairmen, heads of sections and committee members attended the celebration.

The event included prayers and the tying of the red knot onto the lions, a tradition in celebrating Chinese New Year as it symbolises the lions being brought to life during the
festive period.

The association said they chose not to have the lion dance to prioritise the health safety of the lion dance troupe and members.

The members will celebrate the occasion at home in line with the Ministry of Health guidelines.
