The national committee for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 78th birthday celebration held their first meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday.
The meeting, attended by Cabinet ministers, senior government officials, executives and grassroots leaders, discussed preparations for the celeberation, including activities such as the flag hoisting and lowering ceremonies; religious ceremonies such as the 78-times Khatam Al-Quran by mukim, village consultative council, schools and higher education institutions; get-together events; the ceremonial parade; the investiture ceremony; the Knowledge Convention; and the Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation 2024.
Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman highlighted the significance of the involvement of the people in enlivening the celebration as a reflection of living in harmony regardless of race or religion.
He also noted the involvement of the youth, symbolising the strengthening of identity and national spirit that are core to current and future national developments.
The nation annually celebrates His Majesty’s birthday on July 15. – James Kon
