Grand Motors Sdn Bhd, the exclusive distributor of Kia vehicles in Brunei, unveiled the fourth generation Kia Carnival at its Beribi showroom yesterday. The new model comes with a turbo-hybrid powertrain and a CRDi engine, available in two trims – GL and GLS.

Visitors flocked to the showroom to check out the latest Kia Carnival, featuring a spacious SUV-like design with exceptional passenger and cargo capacity, alongside advanced car technology tailored for the Brunei market.

The Carnival offers a 2.2-litre (l) CRDi engine delivering 202 horsepower and 440Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, the new hybrid option boasts a 1.6l turbo engine combined with a 54kW motor, generating 242 horsepower with 271 lb-ft of torque and a 6-speed automatic transmission for enhanced performance and fuel efficiency.

Its unique hybrid performance upgrades aim to improve performance and fuel economy, while also working towards an overall comfort. Aerodynamic 18 or 19-inch wheels are exclusive to the Carnival HEV. In Eco/Smart mode, electrification-vehicle motion control (E-VMC) kicks in with the flick of the paddle shift lever to adjust the amount of regenerative braking with a three-level deceleration control.

Its exterior showcases a bold, modern design with a sculpted grille and intricate cube-like headlights, highlighted by Kia’s signature amber-coloured Star Map daytime running lights.

Inside, the Carnival impresses with a dual-display dashboard featuring a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen integrated into a single panel for a futuristic look, and is equipped with six USB-C ports across all three rows.

The Carnival maintains its 145.1 cubic feet of cargo room behind the first row. ‘Slide-Flex’ seating for 8-passenger versions continues to allow multiple configurations with a sliding second row centre seat that allows the front passenger easy access to a baby or child riding in it, as well as removable second-row seats and fold-in-floor third-row seats, which continue to be a Carnival staple.

Safety features have been upgraded, offering advanced driver assistance systems such as Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA), designed to alert the driver if it detects a risk of collision with an object or person in the front and can automatically assist with braking to help prevent collisions under certain conditions, as well as available Junction Crossing (FCA-JC); Lane-change Oncoming (FCA-LO); Lane-change Side (FCA-LS); and Evasive Steering Assist (FCA-ESA) for GLS trim only.

The new Kia Carnival is on display at Kia showrooms. To celebrate the launch, the Kia Customer Weekend event on until today, offers exclusive deals and test-drive incentives, including free food vouchers for participants. – James Kon
