Postal Dept warns of phishing scams via WhatsApp

The Postal Services Department (JPP) of the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunication yesterday clarified that dealings through the WhatsApp number +62 838 3948 8210 are not true.

The department was responding to public complaints with regard to the ‘Receipt of Payment from Buyer’ posted in the official website.

JPP stated that it had never asked for personal and banking information from customers for any of its current services and urged the public to not share information to unknown individuals online.

The public is also reminded to ensure that any link received through SMS, WhatsApp or social media are legitimate before clicking on it.

They should also ensure that the official government website gov.bn is used for matters involving personal information.

JPP added that it is implementing various safety measures to protect the public.

The department also urged the public to report any online fraud by calling Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team’s (BruCert) at 2458001 or email reporting@brucert.org.bn.
