Politeknik Brunei (PB) has updated one of its learning structures for this year’s intake, where the duration of 18 programmes under Level 5 Diploma has been changed from three years to 30 months, taking into account the regulations and guidelines issued by the Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council (BDNAC) as well as advice from the industry.
This was shared by PB Acting Director Lim Kian Boon in his welcoming remarks at the orientation ceremony for PB’s 13th intake at the Lifelong Learning Centre(L3C) in Lambak Kanan yesterday.
Eight Level 5 Diploma programmes have also been given a rebranding to align with the needs of industry and other higher learning institutions. The programmes are: Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Marketing Strategies, Diploma in Human Capital Management, Diploma in Cloud and Networking, Diploma in Applications Development and Diploma in Electronic and Communication Engineering.
He pointed out that the rebranded Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Marketing Strategies is a combination of three programmes – Diploma in Business Studies, Diploma in Business Studies (Entrepreneurship) and Diploma in Business Studies (Marketing).
PB also collaborated with L3C during the July 2023 session to accommodate learning session for first year students from the School of Business and School of Information and Communication Technology.
He expressed hope that new students will take advantage of the orientation week to understand and appreciate the teaching and learning system as well as the administration and management system at PB.
Efforts by all parties at PB are vital in ensuring the institute’s vision of ‘Generating Innovative and Future-Ready Graduates’ and mission ‘To Deliver Industry-Driven Quality Education and Training’ are achieved.
He also called on students to instil the institution’s core value of ‘Tafawwuq’, bringing the meaning of excellence to their souls and personality for their studies, career and life excellence aimed at supporting the Sultanate’s development particularly in achieving Brunei Vision 2035.
Students are also urged to commit to their studies, support activities organised by the Students Representative Council, pay attention to the need the enrichment module and communicate with group coordinators for academic assistance or advice as well as seek help in personal issues.
Some 206 new students, comprising 105 females and 101 males, are undergoing the orientation week.
The event commenced with the singing of the national anthem, led by PB’s Student Council, and the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by doa for protection from COVID-19.
The ceremony also saw a pledge by the new students, led by Shahamirul Nazri bin Haji Omar from Level 5 Diploma programme in Chemical Engineering.
The orientation week, which features briefing sessions and activities, will conclude on January 20. – Lyna Mohamad
