Chung Hwa Middle School Bandar Seri Begawan (CHMS BSB) recently engaged with Royal Brunei Police Force’s (RBPF) Traffic Control and Investigation Department and Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department to solve traffic woes frequently experienced by road users in front of the school’s entrance.
According to CHMS BSB, the discussion was held to identify the causes and brainstorm strategies to solve the traffic issue.
The school said the main cause of traffic jam is parents parking their vehicles along the main road’s left lane, causing the two-lane road to become a single lane road, especially during the end of a school day. To make the situation worse, vehicles exiting the school have to wait for traffic lights to turn green.
The RBPF, following the visit and a survey of the site, agreed to provide assistance to tackle traffic congestion in the area.
Meanwhile, the BSB Municipal Department recommended the parking area in front of the Royal Regalia Museum be opened free-of-charge for parents to park their vehicles, thus reducing the number of cars in the school’s surrounding area.
The CHMS BSB’s board said it will inform the parents once preparations for the recommended solutions have been implemented, and thanked the RBPF and the BSB Municipal Department for helping solve the long-standing issue. – James Kon
