Pledge to environmental wellness

The Eco team at International School Brunei (ISB) began the new term with an Eco Pledge Tree to encourage students, staff and community to take a pledge to make a difference for the environment.

The pledge tree is a symbolic gesture to show the school’s intent and support of the community’s environmental wellness.

Students and staff at ISB have been writing down their environmental pledges since the start of the term.

Pledges made proactively by students and staff are displayed around the pledge tree.

These included commitments to recycling, switching off lights, learning more about environmental issues and reducing the use of single-use plastics.

The ISB community is encouraged to reflect on how they impact on the environment and how they can make a positive difference.

The ISB Eco team, comprising primary and secondary students, teaching and auxiliary staff, hope that the pledge tree will serve as a visual reminder of the community’s collective goal, and to inspire them to adopt sustainable practices that can make a difference.

Eco initiatives in ISB are led by the Eco Warriors in Primary and the Eco Committee in Secondary.

The overall Eco team are engaged in ongoing projects to highlight and raise awareness to the local and global environmental issues.

The Pledge Tree is one such initiative, to encourage commitment towards the Eco team’s Make A Difference campaign.

Additionally, the team is also improving ISB’s status as a green campus, by encouraging outdoor lessons and creating wellness areas.

The Eco Committee recently set up the Eco Wellness Garden, a special place where students can seek calm and focus amid the hustle and bustle of a regular school day at ISB. To support students with their mental health and wellbeing, the garden is a safe space for students to reflect, reconnect and rejuvenate.

The Eco team at ISB continues to foster environmental awareness, educate and empower their peers to make positive decisions and become change makers for an environmentally sustainable world.
