Fifty-three young pencak silat athletes from five teams are currently competing in the 2nd Pencak Silat Competition organised by the Sports School held at the Hall of Sports School yesterday.

President of Brunei Darussalam Pencak Silat Federation (PERSIB) Pengiran Haji Abdul Karim bin Pengiran Haji Metassan officiated the launch of the competition as guest of honour.

Head of Development from PERSIB Muhammad Ali-Rashid bin Haji Mohd Alipah said, “This is the second time that Sports School hosted the competition with the last one held in 2021.

“This year, I’m delighted to see the competition has received an encouraging response despite many teams felt unprepared to compete.”

He added, “One of the objectives of this competition is to give the opportunity for these athletes to showcase their hard work and to instill the spirit of unity as well as foster close ties among each other.

“Despite representing different teams, Insya Allah, one day, you will join hands, stand together, carrying the national flag and compete together in the national team,“ he added.

Participating teams included, Sports School, Training Centre Co-Curriculum Education Department, Skim Pembangunan Brunei Muara, Skim Youth and Sports Department Tutong dan Pertubuhan Gagak Hitam (PERGAH) Belait.

The two-day competition is aimed to support PERSIB in the development of the sport by providing an opportunity for healthy competition.
