Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) on Saturday launched its state-of-the-art Prosthetic and Orthotic Unit.
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Md Isham bin Haji Jaafar, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC was present as guest of honour at the launching event.
The Prosthetic and Orthotic Unit specialises in providing patients with customised and ready-made medical devices and external supports, particularly lower limb prostheses and or those (e.g., braces, splints, insoles, footwear, helmets).
These devices are designed to maximise or restore patients’ functional mobility in their everyday lives.
The unit is fully equipped with a Casting Room, Modification Room, Plastic Fabrication Room, Machine Room, Technicians’ Workshop, Training Studio, and Assessment Rooms.
Complementing the facility are Certified Prosthetists and Orthotists (CPOs) and technicians who form part of a multidisciplinary team. They work closely with doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals to help patients achieve their functional and quality of life goals.
Conditions treated include cerebral palsy, limb amputation, stroke, and spinal cord injury, among others. – AZLAN OTHMAN
