Pickleball is a sport for all ages, as it is not only easy to pick up and play with similar rules to badminton and tennis but also fun for the whole family as it can be enjoyed by the youth and the elderly, said Pickleball ambassador and head of Pickleball Brunei Layla binti Abdullah.
She said this at the first ever pickleball workshop at the Liang Lumut Recreation Club (LLRC) yesterday.
Organised by Pickleball Brunei in collaboration with Malaysia Pickleball Association (MPA) and Sarawak Pickleball Association (SPA), the workshop saw attendees learning from coaches from the two invited pickleball associations.
Layla highlighted how the sport can be easily played both indoors or outdoors on a typical badminton-sized court. “Many assume that pickleball is played only by pensioners and older people. But it is far from the truth as it can be enjoyed by players of all ages as it is a fun family game first and foremost,” she said.
She noted that the workshop aimed to give participants a brief overview of pickleball, the rules and regulations, as well as how a match is typically played by participating in a game of pickleball with the invited coaches, led by MPA president Nicholas Farrell Choo and SPA president Delina Ibrahim.
“We want to introduce pickleball as it is quite unknown in Brunei. We hope to conduct a workshop to the Brunei-Muara District on June 11.”
Layla hoped the sport will gain more awareness and urged those interested to learn more about it.
