Philippines President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr and First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos will be in the Sultanate for a two-day state visit today and tomorrow.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will have an audience with the Philippine president.
Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Maria Teresita Daza said, “The president will also meet the Filipino community, where he will highlight the contribution of over 25,000 Filipinos currently residing in Brunei.”
According to the spokesperson, the president will also attend a business forum and meet top members of the business sector “to promote trade and investments relations between the two countries”.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Aileen Mendiola-Rau said in a Malacanang Palace briefing on Friday that the Philippines and Brunei are expected to sign memoranda of understanding on priority areas, ranging from agriculture to food security, maritime cooperation and tourism. – Azlan Othman
