MANILA (XINHUA) – The funeral of Philippine police officer Nelson G Santiago, who lost his life in a rescue operation for two abducted Chinese nationals, was held at Teresa town in Rizal province, east of Manila on Saturday.

The Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group successfully rescued two kidnapped Chinese nationals on August 3. During the operation, Santiago was killed while another police officer was seriously wounded.

The rescued Chinese are now in good condition.

On Saturday, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines sent representatives to Santiago’s home to offer condolences.

Earlier this week, the Chinese embassy also sent representatives to the hospital to visit the injured police officer. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Chinese embassy expressed its condolences and respect to Santiago, extended its sympathies to Santiago’s family and the injured police officer, and expressed thanks to the Philippine National Police for rescuing the Chinese nationals.
