Pet dogs were vaccinated against rabies during a drive-through event at the Agriculture Station, Kampong Sungai Liang yesterday.
The drive-through vaccination event, organised by the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood (DAA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Home Affairs, served as a preventative measure against the recent surge of rabies cases in neighbouring countries and encouraged dog owners to vaccinate their pets, said an official from the DAA, Dr Raihan Zuhairah binti Haji Zulkifli at the drive-through.
“We not only provide free rabies vaccination for dogs for this event but also vaccination cards so that owners can keep track of their pet’s vaccination records. It makes it easier for them to conduct follow-up vaccinations.”
She added that they hope to hold a similar event for cats as well as animals in other districts, depending on the availability of the vaccine. – Daniel Lim
