Pencak silat championship comes to a close

The National Pencak Silat Championship, held in conjunction with the 78th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, concluded on Tuesday evening with a grand closing ceremony at the Youth Centre in the capital.

Guest of Honour, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Wadood Bolkiah bin Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz, graced the event.

Champion of Silat Cakak Asli (Men’s Adult Category) was Muhammad Nizamuddin Mukminin bin Fairulman from Belait District; Champion of Kuntau (Men’s Adult Category) was 50703 SLD Zulfadli bin Junaidi of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council; Champion of Class A was 53735 LS Md Reduan bin Sofian of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council; Champion of Class C was Mohammad Ikhwan @ Zakwan bin Awang Empudin of Brunei Muara District.

The championship’s final Pencak Silat competition showcased the participants’ martial arts skills.

The event continued with various performances, culminating in the closing of the Pencak Silat ring.

The evening also saw the ceremonial keris parade, symbolising the official closure of the National Pencak Silat Championship in celebration of His Majesty’s 78th birthday. – FADLEY FAISAL
