Peace, harmony, and gratitude: Friday sermon highlights blessings

The nation ushered in the New Year with a reminder of the blessings of peace and harmony during today’s Friday sermon, which emphasised gratitude and devotion to Allah the Almighty for the stability and security enjoyed by the country.

The sermon highlighted the critical role of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) in safeguarding the nation, marking the 104th anniversary of the country’s oldest institution. It commended the RBPF’s evolution from a traditional law enforcement agency into a guardian of sovereignty and national security.

“As we are aware, January marked the 104th anniversary of the Royal Brunei Police Force,” the sermon stated. “The RBPF has advanced not only as enforcers in crime prevention but also in upholding the sovereignty and security of the nation.”

Acknowledging modern challenges, the sermon pointed to the growing threat of cybercrime. It cited statistics revealing over 50 cases of online fraud reported last year, resulting in losses exceeding BND25 million. Victims were predominantly senior citizens aged 63 and above, underscoring the need for vigilance in the digital age.

The sermon also emphasised the importance of community collaboration in maintaining peace and security. “Public participation in addressing safety and maintaining peace is equally vital,” it stated. “Every individual plays a crucial role in preserving the nation’s stability and sovereignty.”

The congregation was urged to continue praying for the nation’s prosperity and well-being, reaffirming the collective commitment to safeguarding Brunei’s harmonious way of life. – Izah Azahari
