    PB introduces new education structure

Politeknik Brunei (PB) has embarked on an improved journey by implementing several updates in its education structure that will begin with the latest 13th intake, July 2023 session for academic year 2023/2024.

PB Acting Director Lim Kian Boon in his speech as the guest of honour at the orientation week said, “Taking into account the rules and guidelines issued by the Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council under the Ministry of Education as well as following advisory from industry’s stakeholders, PB has implemented improvements on minimum credits required for 18 Level 5 diploma programmes from a period of three years to only two-and-a-half years without compromising the quality of education and learning.”

Meanwhile, eight Level 5 diploma programmes were given a re-branding inline with the needs of the industries and other higher learning institutions. Three programmes including Diploma in Business Studies, Diploma in Business Studies (Entrepreneurship) and Diploma in Business Studies (Marketing) have been rebranded as Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Marketing Strategies.

He added, “To accommodate the increase in the number of students, PB has collaborated with the Lifelong Learning Centre (L3C) for the School of Business first year students, and the School of Information and Communication Technology to make use of L3C. Additionally, there has been a change of operational hours for PB starting from July 1 to December 31 and will be operating from Monday to Friday. “

The PB acting director also reminded the new students to make good use of the orientation week to gain a better understanding on the learning and teaching as well as administration and management system at the institution.

He also hoped that all new students will learn and develop themselves during their time at PB as it is an important step to become a highly skilled worker.

Lim Kian Boon also urged students to comply with the attendance requirement as any student with the attendance of less than 85 per cent will fail a module.

The lack of attendance may also affect the students to obtain their diploma certificate at the end of the studies. Students will need to be fully committed in their studies as the certification guidelines and policy only allow for a repeat in a module throughout the course. – James Kon
