Paying tribute to long-serving teachers

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the Sultanate paid tribute to long serving teachers nationwide during a luncheon at Pondok Sari Wangi, Jerudong on Sunday.

On behalf of the Taiwan’s Overseas Community Affairs Council, 21 teachers were presented with certificates of appreciation and long service awards for their dedication and sacrifice.

Eleven teachers received the five year long service award, four received the 10 years long service award and two received the 20 years long service awards.

Teachers Leong Yueh Moi from Chung Hwa School Kiudang and Sim Yen Kien of Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait were recipients of the 30 years of service award.

Meanwhile, teachers Tan Mee Lan and Ting Wuong Hee of Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan received the 40 years service award. The ceremony also saw Principal of Chung Ching Middle School, Seria Sim Jeng Siang receiving the fifth Overseas Teacher Award.

He is one of 13 individuals globally to receive the award.

Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office Vanessa Shih presented the awards. Sim Jeng Siang said, “The responsibility of teaching is never-ending. I have been over retirement age for many years and am still involved in education. I encourage long-serving teachers to continue their hard work and dedication.”

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office representative expressed her highest respect to the board of directors, principals and teachers.

She believed that with the joint effort of all schools, it would be possible to cultivate outstanding talents possessing moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetic qualities. – James Kon
