Patients in need of further diagnosis through the use of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine will be referred to the Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) or Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre (PJSC) as a means of providing efficient treatment.

This was said by Minister of Health Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at the fifth day of the 18th Legislative Council (LegCo) meeting yesterday, in response to a query by LegCo member Yang Berhormat Haji Mohimin bin Haji Johari @ Jahari on whether there are sufficient MRI machines available for use by the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Three MRI machines are available in the Sultanate – one at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, one at JPMC, and another at PJSC, said the minister. “MRI machines are not used to treat emergency patients; it is a tool used to further diagnose a patient’s condition, normally neurological or others,” he continued.

“If an MRI machine is not available at certain times, the patient will be referred to JPMC or PJSC,” he said, adding that an additional MRI machine will be acquired for RIPAS Hospital in the near future.
