The Panaga Dragons and the BSRC Vipers emerged victorious as champions in the Under-9 and Under-11 categories of the Belait Grassroot 2023 yesterday.
Organised by the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) and the Belait District Football Association (PBDB), the competition saw eight teams competing in the Under-9 Category: BSRC Racoons, BSRC Grassroot FT, BSRC Cougers, Panaga Panthers, Panaga Dragons, PBDB JR, KB FT JR A, and KB FT JR B.
Meanwhile, seven teams competed in the Under-11 Category: KB FT JR A, KB FT JR B, Hornbill, SR Muhammad Alam, BSRC Vipers JR, BSRC Synergy and BSRC Catalyst.
Head of the Grassroot Football Development at the FABD Haji Rozaimienizam bin Haji Jainal highlighted that the competition serves as a platform for aspiring youth to be more engaged in the sport.
“We also want to emphasise the importance of teamwork, leadership, social skills and decision-making while also instilling positive and good values among the young players,” he added.
He said the competition is also an opportunity to identify young players who exhibit the potential to represent the PBDB in the Grassroot Inter-District 2023, to be held sometime in November and December this year.
Panaga Dragons placed first in the Under-9 Category, followed by BSRC Racoons and BSRC Grassroot FT in second and third places.
For the Under-11 category, the three teams from BSRC dominated the podium, with BSRC Vipers Jr placing first while BSRC Synergy and BSRC Catalyst placed second and
third.
