Pakistan eyes blue economy to boost growth

ISLAMABAD (XINHUA) – Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal said that the country has been striving to boost the blue economy to promote sustainable national growth.

“The development of the blue economy is a transformative opportunity that can ensure our future stability by creating jobs and food security… aligning maritime strategies with sustainable development goals is important,” the minister said during a conference on Wednesday.

Iqbal highlighted that solving challenges confronting the blue economy is crucial to taking the country forward on the path of development, saying countries around the globe achieved progress by addressing key factors in this regard.

Emphasising the importance of the blue economy, the minister said that there is a need for sustainable practices and international cooperation to tackle environmental challenges effectively.

Pakistan is committed to promoting sustainable maritime governance and collaborating with developing countries on best practices, he said, while stressing the necessity of a balanced approach to achieve both economic growth and sustainability.
