    Iftar drive donates to underprivileged families

    Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through the Faculty of Arabic Language organised the iftar meal distribution programme ‘Anfiqu Fi Sabilillah: Ringkat Ramadhan’.

    Meals prepared by faculty members were distributed among several underprivileged families in the RPN Kampong Panchor Mengkubau.

    Dean of the Faculty of Arabic Language Dr Hajah Rafidah binti Haji Abdullah attended the programme.

    The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a brief explanation before the preparation of meals began.

    The preparation continued in the afternoon with food packaging after which the students were divided into groups alongside lecturers to distribute the meals. – Lyna Mohamad

    Donations aid families for Hari Raya celebration

    With Hari Raya Aidilfitri less than a week away, many households are preparing for the festivities, though some, particularly the underprivileged, may face financial constraints.

    To ease the burden on poor and needy families, Samima Sdn Bhd joined efforts to support the community by donating to selected families and orphans in the country.

    The donations were presented at a Doa Selamat ceremony at the Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit (MSSBRPAD) Mosque yesterday, where 20 underprivileged families and 16 orphans from the surrounding area received contributions.

    Organised in collaboration with the MSSBRPAD Mosque Takmir Committee, the event was graced by Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Pahlawan Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jaafar bin Haji Abdul Aziz as the guest of honour.

    Advisor to the MSSBRPAD Mosque Takmir Committee Dato Paduka Haji Idris bin Haji Abas was also in attendance.

    The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by imam Muhammad Khaizuran Amali bin Haji Kamsani, who also delivered the Doa Selamat and Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam.

    The guest of honour along with Dato Paduka Haji Idris and Samima Group Manager
    Haji Hidhayatullah bin Haji Tajudeen presented the donations.

    Community spirit shines through Ramadhan charity events

    Setia Motors Sdn Bhd organised a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative during Ramadhan, featuring two key programmes aimed at supporting the underprivileged.

    Marketing Manager Ezzul Ahmad said, “Ramadhan is a time of reflection, gratitude and generosity. Giving back to those in need strengthens our community and nurtures our souls. True blessings come from sharing what we have with others.”

    On March 20, Setia Motors held a cookout at Pusat Belia’s shared kitchen, with 20 staff volunteers preparing 350 packed meals for distribution.

    The following day, Setia Motors conducted a charity drive, donating essential and kitchen items to 11 underprivileged families in Pekan Muara and Tutong District.

    The initiative aimed to ease financial burdens and provide much-needed support during Ramadhan.

    Iftar meals donated to mark Ramadhan blessings

    The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® recently continued its charitable efforts under the Caring Cup programme by donating 450 packed meals and drinks to Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah on March 24, followed by another 450 to Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque yesterday.

    A total of 900 packed meals were distributed, providing sustenance to community members partaking in iftar at the mosques. The initiative reflects The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®’s commitment to giving back to the community and supporting local traditions during the holy month of Ramadhan.

    Orphans receive aid ahead of Hari Raya celebration

    A total of 40 orphans from Kampong Salar and Kampong Kapok, Muara received donations at a ceremony held at Poomaan Jaya Sdn Bhd in Kampong Salar on Monday, marking the final segment of the group’s donation activities. The initiative aimed to ease the burden of underprivileged children.

    The donations were presented by Haji Mohamed Haja Najmuddin bin Haji Mohd Maideen, Hajah Muthu Mohamed Nachiar, Taj Uddin, Abu Taher, Haja Maideen bin Abdul Rahim and N.S Shameem Ahamed.

    Acting Village Head of Kampong Tanah Jambu and Kampong Salar Haji Sarabani bin Haji Bakir, noted that the recipients were selected from the orphan list registered under the Community Development Department (JAPEM), with 16 from Kampong Salar and the remainder from Kampong Kapok. Meanwhile, Village Head of Kampong Kapok Shahminan bin Haji Abdul Rahman, expressed hope that the contributions would help ease the orphans’ burdens as Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaches.     1,018 food packages distributed in charity drive

    Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre (HTRC) and its student society, the Halalan Thayyiban Student Society (HTSS) and in collaboration with Ibnu Sina Scientific Laboratory Centre organised the ‘Jalinan Kasih Semanis Ukhuwah’ programme in collaboration with the Senior Citizens Acitvity Centre (PKWE) in the Tutong District.

    The programme served as a platform for UNISSA members to engage in charitable giving where 1,018 food packages were prepared and distributed free among residents of Tutong District through a drive-through system at the PKWE compound.

    Director of the HTRC Pengiran Dr Hajah Norkhairiah binti Pengiran Haji Hashim, Director of the Ibnu Sina Scientific Laboratory Centre Dr Cristalina binti Jalil Marsal and UNISSA lecturers and students participated. UNISSA members donated for this worthy cause. The programme also received support from PKWE members led by PKWE Manager Haji Hammafi bin Mohd Yassin.

    Their involvement facilitated the food preparation process.

    Meanwhile, UNISSA students and PKWE members exchanged experiences and values while working together on this charitable effort. A total of 40 volunteers, comprising UNISSA students and PKWE members worked together to prepare and distribute the food packages.

    The programme’s primary objective was to encourage charitable giving as an act of jariyah (continuous charity), especially during Ramadhan.

    It aimed to cultivate empathy for those in need, strengthen bonds between people for the sake of Allah the Almighty, and reinforce noble values through volunteerism.

    500 meals prepared for the needy

    Baiduri Bank, through its Employee Wellness Initiative (EWI), recently hosted the second edition of Buat and Bagi. Organised in collaboration with the Culinary School at Laksamana College of Business (LCB), the Ministry of Health (MoH), and the Community Development Department (JAPEM), the initiative aimed to provide nutritious meals to those in need during the holy month of Ramadhan.

    Over three days, Baiduri Bank employees and LCB culinary students collaborated to prepare and distribute 500 meals to various recipients.

    Baiduri Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ti Eng Hui was joined by members of the bank’s management committee. Together, they led a team of 80 Baiduri Bank employees in packing and delivering meals to patients and frontline employees at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.

    Deputy CEO at the RIPAS Hospital Muhammad Aziman bin Awang Nasir; Deputy Medical Superintendent at the RIPAS Hospital Dr Hajah Riamiza Natalie binti Haji Momin; and Head of the Psychiatry Department Pengiran Dr Hajah Fariza Suriyani binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani received the donations.

    Reflecting on the initiative, Ti Eng Hui shared, “Buat and Bagi is a testament to the power of collective action in creating a positive impact. Beyond providing meals, this initiative reflects our dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve and strengthening our connection with the community.”

    LCB Head of the Culinary School Simon M Lynch added, “This initiative is more than just a charity event; it is an opportunity for our students to engage with the community and apply their learning to a meaningful cause. We are honoured to continue working with Baiduri Bank in a collaboration that fosters a shared commitment to creating a lasting and positive impact.”

    An additional 250 meals were distributed to the wider community, including residents and staff of JAPEM’s Kompleks Rumah Kebajikan, as well as congregant at Pekan Tutong Mosque, Sufri Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Burung Pingai, and Pehin Dato Imam Haji Abdul Mokti Mosque (Kampong Ayer) for iftar.

    Deputy CEO of Group Treasury and Institutional Banking at Baiduri Bank Pengiran Azaleen bin Pengiran Dato Haji Mustapha along with other management committee members and employees, represented the bank in making these donations.

    Initiative brings smiles to families

    RSW Services Sdn Bhd organised a Ramadhan charity project, which saw the asnaf poor and needy families registered under the Zakat, Waqaf and Baitulmal Management Department for Brunei-Muara District receiving basic food necessities.

    An initiative of its Director Mohamad Razie bin Haji Alias, the project dubbed ‘Rahmat Ramadhan, Membawa Senyuman’, saw the distribution to 15 recipients’ residences yesterday.

    The initiative marks the second programme of RSW Services conducted under the Project Rahmat Ramadhan: Membawa Senyum with the first one hosting an iftar ceremony with residents of the welfare House Complex and officers of the Community Development Department (JAPEM) on March 16.

    “It is hoped that through this effort, we can strengthen the spirit of compassion, love, and unity within the community. May this humble contribution bring lasting blessings and goodness, while also inspiring more people to participate in charitable acts,” said Mohamad Razie. – Lyna Mohamad

    United in Ramadhan, blessings shared through close bonds

    Alumni unite for religious ceremony

    Former students of Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien College (SOASC) participated in a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony organised by the college’s 1975 alumni with former SOASC principal Dato Haji Alimin bin Haji Abdul Wahab attending as the guest of honour.

    The event began with a mass Zohor prayer and also saw the recitation of Tahlil.

    Dato Haji Alimin expressed gratitude to Allah the Almighty and prayed that the relationship and kinship of the students remain.

    He also prayed for all to be blessed with good health, prosperity and peace throughout life.

    The Khatam and Tahlil, is one of the activities of former students of SOASC 1975 Golden

    Jubilee celebration where prior to this, the male students held a Tahlil ceremony at the Royal Mausoleum for Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam, the late father of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, as gratitude to the founder of the college. – Lyna Mohamad

    Khatam Al-Quran celebrates Tedarus completion

    The Kampong Masin Mosque Takmir Committee held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony marking the conclusion of the Ramadhan nightly Tedarus Al-Quran for this year, which also saw the presentation of donations to orphans of Kampong Masin and Kampong Bebatik Masin.

    Among others present was Kampong Masin Village Head Mohd Mu’az Hafizuddin bin Moksin.

    Held at the mosque, it saw 43 participants made up of members of the Kampong Masin Mosque Takmir Committee which began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Mosque Affairs Officer Jeffry bin Haji Metassim followed with the Khatam ceremony led by Haji Abd Wahab bin Haji Abdullah.

    The Khatam ceremony continued with the recitation of Takhtim led by Mosque Affairs Officer (Apprentice) Abdul Azim bin Haji Mohd Azman while the Khatam prayer was read by Jeffry.

    The presentation of donations to 30 orphans followed after which the ceremony continued with a special talk in conjunction with Nuzul Al-Quran by Special Duties Officer Grade II, Religious Affairs Directorate, Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Mohammad Rif’at Atiyah bin Haji Anwari.

    The speaker touched on ‘Common Sense with Al-Quran’.

    The ceremony concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to the speaker and the recitation of Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam by the mosque’s bilal Muhammad Khairuddin bin Haji Zaidin. – Lyna Mohamad

    Religious activity strengthens ties

    The Welfare Body of Police’s Wives and Families (PEKERTI) of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) on Sunday held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony at the Gadong Police Surau to mark the holy month of Ramadhan.

    Acting Chairperson of PEKERTI Nurakmalia binti Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Iskandar was the guest of honour. Chairperson of the religious body of PEKERTI Siti Hawa binti Haji Ibrahim as well as executive members and members from the PEKERTI branches also participated.

    The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the guest of honour and mass recitation of Surah Adh-Dhuha to Surah Al-Masad followed by reading of Takhtim, Doa Khatam Al-Quran, Dikir Marhaban and concluded with the closing Khatam prayer.

    The religious activity aimed to strengthen the bonds of friendship between PEKERTI members and also to encourage reading Al-Quran, especially during Ramadhan. – James Kon

    79 participate in Khatam Al-Quran ceremony

    Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony marking the end of the full recitation of Al-Quran in conjunction with Ramadhan. Hengyi Industries also presented waqaf to Masjid Az-Zakireen during the event.

    A total of 79 Hengyi Industries staff participated in the event.

    Acting Penghulu of Mukim Serasa and Village Head of RPN Kampong Meragang Kawasan I Mazlan bin Haji Jumat and; Village Head of RPN Meragang Kawasan 2 Mohammad bin Haji Tamin; and Acting Village Head of RPN Kampong Serasa and Kampong Serasa Abdul Hamid bin Zinin also participated.The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and the holy verses of Al-Quran.

    The recitation of Takhtim, Doa Khatam Al-Quran and Doa Selamat was led by Muhammad Sa’dun bin Haji Suhaili while the Dikir was led by Mohamad Izuan bin Marali.

    New sewerage pump installed to address KB manhole woes

    In response to the letter ‘Overflowing manhole continues to plague KB Residents’ by Annoyed published in the Opinion page of the Bulletin on March 19, the Ministry of Development (MoD) would like to thank the writer for bringing up this matter and apologises for the inconvenience caused to the residents at Jalan Derma Wangsa.

    The MoD through the Public Works Department (JKR) Kuala Belait branch recently installed a new sewerage pump to improve the sewerage system which was completed on March 17.

    Since then, the department has been actively carrying out inspection on manholes around the Jalan Derma Wangsa barracks to identify any further blockages.

    JKR Kuala Belait branch assures the public that it will continue to carry out cleaning works on sewerage pipes including the deployment of vacuum tankers to relieve the issue of overloaded manholes at the affected catchment area and appreciates any feedback on the matter.
