The Brunei-US Association (BUSA), in collaboration with Travelhub Tours & Travel Sdn Bhd, held a paddy planting activity as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) towards the community at Simpang 766-48-9, Kampong Sungai Lalit in Sungai Liang, Kuala Belait yesterday.
More than 70 volunteers mostly comprising BUSA members and the BUSA-PB Chapter participated in the activity, supported by the United States (US) Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and the Kampong Sungai Lalit community.
US Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Caryn R McClelland launched the event by planting the first paddy seedling.
BUSA President Salimah binti Haji Saim delivered remarks followed by a briefing by Tourism Development Manager of Travelhub Tours & Travel David Coleman and Chairperson of BUSA-PB Chapter Nur Aneesa Harziah Adriana binti Md Hadi.
The activity aimed to inculcate cooperation and camaraderie amongst the community members.
BUSA’s CSR programme’s objective is to lend a hand to an elderly couple planting paddy – Muhammad Jos Rezuan bin Abdullah Radin and his wife Rasim Khairiah binti Abdullah Ringgit.
The couple have been planting paddy since 2005 on a 0.76-hectare field.
BUSA hopes that its CSR programme will promote an interest in agriculture in the youth and communicate the importance of it not just as a business activity, but as the fundamental for living.
