Two F-35s from the Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska touched down at Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) Base in Rimba yesterday.
The Pacific Air Forces unit is in the Sultanate for a familiarisation with the aircraft and to build upon working relationships with RBAirF.
Commander of RBAirF Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Sharif bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim met the F-35 crew and maintenance team for a tour of the aircraft as well as introduction to the aircraft capabilities.
The landing coincides with official visits of United States (US) Principal Assistant Secretary of Defence Jedidiah P Royal and Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander of Pacific Air Forces Major General Mark Weber.
They are in the country to meet with senior Bruneian officials on securities initiatives amid the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the US and Brunei Darussalam. – James Kon
