Over BND300,000 collected for the Turkiye and Syrian Earthquake Humanitarian Fund were handed over in a ceremony at the Digadong Hall of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) yesterday.
Representatives from the Mosque Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and telecommunication companies Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST), Progresif Sdn Bhd and imagine Sdn Bhd presented the donations totalling BND303,626.16. Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad as special advisors of the fund received the donations.
Acting Director Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri at the Mosque Affairs Department handed over a donation of BND132,344.16, collected from 116 fund boxes in mosques, suraus and religious halls throughout the country.
DST Senior Vice President of Customer Operations Amir bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Bijaya Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Haji Hussin presented a contribution of BND138,649, of which BND133,649 was collected from the SMS Brunei Prihatin campaign, and BND5,000 from DST.
Progresif donated BND31,755, presented by Progresif Chief Executive Officer Hajah Nurul Haniah binti Haji Jaafar, of which BND29,755 was collected from the SMS Brunei Prihatin campaign and BND2,000 from Progresif.
imagine handed over a donation of BND878 collected from the SMS Brunei Prihatin campaign and its website portal, presented by Acting Chief Executive Officer of imagine and Director of the Industry and Business Ecosystem Division Allen On. Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan as deputy advisor of the fund also attended the ceremony.
The event continued with a committee meeting of the Turkiye and Syrian Earthquake Humanitarian Fund, co-chaired by Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim and Permanent Secretary (Community) at the MCYS Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari.
The meeting included discussions on methods for channelling the donation to the people of Turkiye and Syria. The Turkiye and Syrian Earthquake Humanitarian Fund opened to the public on February 14 and closed on May 14. – Lyna Mohamad
