Over 900 run for a good cause

Over 900 people participated in the inaugural Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Run 2023 at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday in celebration of graduates of the 35th UBD Convocation Ceremony as well as welcoming the latest August 2023/2024 intake who completed Freshers’ Week.

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah was among the participants.

Other participants included UBD students and staff, alumni as well as the public who registered in one of three categories: 3km Fun Run, 5km Men and Women Competitive Run, and 10km Men and Women Competitive Run.

UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle flagged off the runners.

Part of the proceeds from the registration fees will be channelled to the National Orphans Fund.

UBD Run 2023 is a platform for the university’s community and the public to come together, engage in physical activities and promote a healthy lifestyle while contributing to a good cause.

The top three winners in the competitive categories were presented with cash prizes. In the 5km Men Competitive Run, Mohammad Fathur bin Haji Zulkifli crossed the finish line first with a time of 18 minutes 11 seconds. Second place went to Muhammad Zain bin Haji Matussin with a time of 18 minutes 32 seconds and third place to Ahmad Zawawi Rasit with the time of 18 minutes 35 seconds

The top three women in the 5km Women Competitive Run were Shazana Hamiroldzam with 23 minutes 24 seconds, Nursyura binti Rosli with 24 minutes 33 seconds and Fazrina Tuah with 25 minutes seven seconds.

In the 10km Men Competitive Run, Muhd Haziq Syazwan Hermanti won first place after completing the race in 35 minutes 14 seconds. Muhammad Amirul Hamdi Jamil come in second place with 35 minutes 21 seconds and Hulubalang Asgar Abdul Malik bin Hidup came in third with 37 minutes 52 seconds.

The top three women were Noor Hanisah binti Haji Abdul Ghani with 46 minutes 33 seconds, Erin Liam with 47 minutes 19 seconds and Nurul Amal Hana Ahlina Wardina Athirah binti Muntassir with 53 minutes 34 seconds. – James Kon
