Some 601 kilogrammes of raw chicken wings without the Halal import permit were confiscated during a joint operation by enforcement officers from the Halal Food Control Division at the Syariah Affairs Department and the Royal Customs and Excise Department in Kampong Manggis yesterday.
The enforcement team found the raw chicken wings inside a car following a surveillance on a saloon car from Temburong to Brunei-Muara districts via Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge.
Two local suspects were detained and the case handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further action.
The Syariah Affairs Department said every entry of Halal meat into the Sultanate must possess a valid Halal import permit by following the prescribed processes.
The Halal Food Control Division and enforcement agencies will conduct regular operations to ensure the country’s laws and regulations are followed. Those with information on food smuggling activities are urged to contact the division via its hotline 7166222 or call the Halal Food Control Division Office in their district.
