The Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) partnered with Brunei Gas Carriers (BGC) and Poni Marine on Friday for a river clean-up campaign during which 221 kilogrammes of debris were collected.
The clean-up in Kampong Sungai Siamas, Kampong Ayer was held to mark World Ocean Day on June 8 and Day of Seafarers on June 25. The event attracted 36 participants including MPABD and BGC representatives, Poni Marine staff, volunteers from Bureau Veritas, and members of the public.
Armed with gloves, bags, and three boats, participants embarked on a mission to remove waste materials from the waterway as well as land sites – the Sungai Siamas parking lot and Kampong Sungai Kebun jetty. – Adib Noor
