Over 1,000 celebrate Lunar New Year

The Fuzhou Shiyyi Association held its Lunar New Year Gala Dinner last Saturday attended by more than 1,000 guests including those from Malaysia.

Among the guests were Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Lau How Teck as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps and prominent figures in the Chinese community including Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin.

Fuzhou Shiyyi Association President Jackson Ting said the association was established 11 years ago and it has gone through and tackled constant challenges.

He also called for the support for the incoming new leadership.

The dinner began with the tossing of yee sang followed by the presentation of ang pow to 37 senior citizens in recognition of their long-time contribution.

Individuals over 80 years also received a gold necklace each.

Members of the Diplomatic Corps presented certificates to outstanding students.
