Over 100 compete in badminton tournament

Winners of a doubles badminton tournament held in conjunction with Irau Tupeh Padey 2024 received their prizes at the Youth Centre in the capital on Sunday night.

Organised by the Lun Bawang Murut Brunei Association (PLBMB), 112 shuttlers participated in the competition.

Tomie Tagal and Daniel Alus won the men’s double open category after defeating Safran Sabtu and Afeq 21-18, 21-13.

In joint third place were Joseph Labih with Daniel Gelawat and Yohanes Sumbat with Nehemia Japare.

Meanwhile, in the men’s double veteran 50 years and above category, Jeferi Ting and Japarie Berauk came back from one set down to defeat Lin Sun Hui and Liew Chuan Fue 13-21, 21-18 and 21-12 in the final.

The duo of Kula Tagal and Jose Agong and Gisang Kaling with Kamran Lepi were joint third place. In the women’s double open category, Christy Deborah and Maryanne Yangkai had a hard fought game against Emmy Esther Lukas and Glory Jumat to win 17-12, 21-19 and 21-15.

Evy Cheryll Udan with partner Lyn Sharonica Chin shared the third place with Anna Jumat and Amanda Jumat.

In the women’s double 80 years and above category, Aesyah Apoi and Masliani emerged winners after beating Jariah and Loly in straight sets 21-13, 21-18. Third place went to Mariam Ulat and Limahwati.

Meanwhile, the male 12 years old category saw Noah and Amir in first place after defeating the duo of Gad Nathan and Abdnar. In third place was the pair of JJ and John.

President of PLBMB Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Tamin bin Tuah, PLBMB Deputy President Mariam Ulat and former PLBMB president Ibrahim Timbang presented the prizes. – James Kon
