Outgoing high commissioner calls on Brunei businesses to explore Bangladesh

Outgoing Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona, who will leave the Sultanate after serving her four-year tenure, recently called on the public to explore and invest in Bangladesh as well as consider importing its products.

She said this during a meeting with 31 Belait District-based companies to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Bangladesh-Brunei diplomatic relations and a thanksgiving ceremony.

“Kuala Belait is the home of big companies related to the oil and gas sector. The Bangladeshis have been working with these companies for a long time. The companies have also continued believing in their performances all through the years and for that we thank you for the contributions,” said the outgoing high commissioner.

The envoy also highlighted the state visit of the two government heads in 2019 and 2022, the recent successful implementation of the streamlined recruitment of Bangladeshi workers through BOESL based on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in 2022 during the state visit of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to Bangladesh.

The outgoing high commissioner called on Bangladeshi businessmen to expand their business horizon beyond the construction sector in the Sultanate and to look for other options compatible with the country’s recent economic trends.
