Opportunity to learn from each other: Minister

The first-ever Anaesthesia Conference: Anaesthesia Update 2023 is a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals to come together, learn from each other and shape the future of anaesthesia care, Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar said.

The minister, in his capacity as Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) Executive Director, was addressing the gathering as the guest of honour at the conference at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom, The Empire Brunei yesterday.

The minister also expressed optimism about the event’s potential impact in the field of anaesthesia care. “We look forward to engaging in stimulating discussions, sharing groundbreaking research, and promoting the highest standards of patient safety,” he added.

Over 80 professionals from Brunei Darussalam and neighbouring countries came together to share insights and learn about the latest advances and research in anaesthesiology and perioperative care at the conference, organised by JPMC in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam Society of Anaesthesiologists.

JPMC Medical Director Dr Meera Sahib Kabeer opened the conference with welcoming remarks.

The Brunei Darussalam Society of Anaesthesiologists received a token of appreciation for the partnership and contributions to the conference. Event sponsor Merk Sharp and Dohme (MSD) was also acknowledged for its support.

The scientific sessions included speakers from neighbouring countries, including MSD Regional Director for Medical Affairs in the Asia-Pacific Dr Joseph Abueg, Gleneagles Hospital Medini Johor’s consultant anaesthesiology Dr Shahridan bin Mohd Fathil, and Professor Dr Ina Ismiarti binti Shariffuddin from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia.

The session also featured healthcare experts from JPMC, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital, Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre and Gleneagles JPMC. – James Kon
