The Labour Department’s Law Enforcement Division conducted an operation recently in Kampong Sengkurong, where food stalls were inspected and six violations unearthed.
The violations were: unauthorised employment of foreign workers; not providing emergency assistance facilities; failure to grant public holidays; exceeding prescribed working hours; not providing rest days; and failure to pay overtime wages.
The agency in a statement said employers may be fined up to BND1,000 for violations under the Employment Order, 2009 and failure to settle fine may lead to the case being brought to court. It also reminded employers to monitor the welfare of employees as part of the order. – Fadley Faisal
