Six violations of the Employment Order were recorded during Operation Sejahtera 155/2022 in Kampong Beribi, Kampong Jerudong and Kampong Katimahar by the Labour Enforcement Division of the Labour Department recently.

An inspection at a grocery store in Kampong Beribi found two offences committed by the employer – allowing foreign workers to have unauthorised jobs and one local worker without a service contract.

Scrutiny at grocery stores and restaurants in Kampong Jerudong found three offences by the employer – one worker registered under another company, a foreign waiter working as a cook and a foreign worker working outside of registered address.

An inspection at a vegetable shop in Kampong Katimahar found one offence by an employer – a local worker without a service contract.

For all offences, if convicted, the original employer and employing employer may be subject to BND600 fine for the first offence and BND900 for second offence.

The Labour Department reminded employers to monitor employee welfare in accordance with Employment Order 2009 such as preparing employment contracts and on time payment of wages. Employers are also advised not to misuse the Foreign Workers Licence.
