The Omicron variant continued to be the dominant COVID-19 strain in the Sultanate.

This was said by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at the daily press conference yesterday, adding that between February 7 and March 5, some 631 out of 671 samples had undergone gene sequencing testing and were confirmed the Omicron variant, while the rest were Delta.

He added that among the Omicron cases, 494 were local cases and 137 were imported, which he said indicates that the Omicron variant is the main variant in the Sultanate.

“The trend is similar to most countries at present,” the minister said.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin also attended.
