Oil and gas activities from May to July could lead to power interruptions

There may be power interruptions in some areas of the country due to scheduled turnaround activities in the upstream oil and gas sector, said the Department of Electrical Services (DES) and Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) in a statement yesterday.

According to the statement, the activities will be carried out by BSP from May 3 until July 1.

It added that the activities may impact gas supply to the Tungku Gas Plant, which supplies gas to power stations owned by DES and the Berakas Power Company Sdn Bhd.

“Although the likelihood is low, these activities might cause power interruptions in certain areas across the country especially on May 3 to May 5.

“In accordance to the existing standard operating procedure (SOP), DES in close cooperation with the relevant stakeholders will ensure that any power interruptions are under control and areas that may be affected will be notified immediately.

“The public is advised to always practise prudent and efficient use of electricity by also adopting energy saving initiatives,” said the statement.

“Any further development on power interruptions will be notified and updated from time to time through DES and BSP official press releases and social media channels.” – James Kon
