Officials visit Chinese cemetery

Officials from the Brunei-Muara District Office and the Land Department visited the Chinese cemetery in Kampong Lupak Luas yesterday. The visit aimed to gain a better understanding of the cemetery site that will be gazetted.

Teng Yun Temple (To’Kong China Brunei Darussalam) Chairman Lee Eng Ching and Deputy Chairman Tiah Eng Beng as well as other executive committee members were present for a discussion with the officials. Families with ancestral graves in the cemetery are also urged to register with Teng Yun Temple.

The temple, in a statement issued in October, said, “With reference to Brunei-Muara District Office letter dated on September 16, the existing Chinese cemetery located on a private land (Lot 118,EDR 1267) is to be gazetted as a non-Islamic cemetery under the responsibility of the district office and does not involve any excavation and transfer of any tombs at Kampong Lupak Luas, Mukim Sungai Kebun.” – James Kon
